To: From: Date: RE: Mrs. Pay Shantel Bodily October 21, 2012 Professional Speaker Analysis

I had the opportunity to listen to Mitt Romney, the Professional Speaker and the Republican nominee for the President of the Unites States, at the Republican National Convention on October 3, 2012. Organization Throughout Mitt Romneys speech he was very organized and prepared. Mitt Romney demonstrated how Obama wants to cut a trillion dollars from the military budget and that will eliminate hundreds and thousands of jobs and also put our security at risk. Obamas assault on coal and gas and oil will send energy and manufacturing jobs to China. Our natural resources like coal, gas, and oil are higher in price since Obama took office. Mitt Romney also demonstrated that if we were to add taxes to small businesses, like Obama wants to do, it wont add any jobs, it will just eliminate them. He talked about how Obamas policies have not helped create jobs. All it has done is make the employment levels go down and making a lot more people jobless. Mitt Romney has a five step plan to help the United States if he gets elected as president. First he will make North America energy independent by 2020. He will achieve this by taking full advantage of our oil and coal and gas and nuclear and renewables. Second we will give our fellow citizens the skills they need for the jobs of today and the careers of tomorrow. He will accomplish this having the parents have a say in their children education. Third we will make trade work for America by forging new trade agreements. His solution is that whenever nations cheat in trade they will receive definite penalties. Fourth is to assure every entrepreneur and every job creator that their investments in America will not vanish like those in Greece. To make sure that their investments do not vanish, he will put America back to a balanced budget. In his fifth step, he said that he would help small businesses by reducing taxes on business, not raising them. He wants to reduce healthcare by repealing and exchanging Obama care. This will help the small businesses reduce fees. The organizational pattern Mitt Romney used was the Problem Solution Pattern. A problem that Romney stated was that Obamas $716 billion cut to Medicare to finance Obama care will both hurt today's seniors, and depress innovation and jobs in medicine. Romney gave an example on how he would fix it by repealing and replacing Obama care. Within the Problem Solution Pattern he uses inductive reasoning. Romney indicated how Obama want to raise taxes

on small business. Romney gave us a solution to that problem when he says reducing taxes on business, not raising them. and simplifying and modernizing the regulations that hurt small business the most. Supporting Material Ethos Ethos is defined as the speakers credibility. Mitt Romney demonstrated Ethos by rescuing the 2002 Winter Olympics by getting them out of debt. Mitt Romney was also the Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. Romney was one of the founders of Bain Capital. He helped make Staples and Sports Authority become well known. Romney has a lot of credibility to his name that can help improve the United States government. Why do I believe Mitt Romney? I believe Mitt Romney because he says that he will lower taxes for small businesses and he will get rid of Obama Care. I also believe in him when he says that he will not raise taxes on the middle class. Romney will guarantee the freedom of religion I know he will grant us this freedom because he is a religious man himself. Romney said, I have a plan to create 12 million new jobs. He will accomplish this with his 5-step plan. Pathos Pathos is defined as the emotional appeal. Mitt Romney used Pathos so that his audience would catch the important information he was trying to convey. Romney spoke with hope when he said he wanted to provide a better education for the children. Romney explained to us how he envisioned education in America, where every parent knows that their child will get an education that leads them to a good job and a bright horizon. He made us think about our future by saying, I am running for president to help create a better future. A future where everyone who wants a job can find one. Romney said, Im an American. I make my destiny. And
we deserve better! My children deserve better! My family deserves better. My country deserves better! We should be proud to be an American and we should get the best of what the land of the free has to offer.

Logos Logos is defined as the logic of the speaker. Mitt Romney had Logos because everything he said was true. He had examples to back up his statements; Obama has not done anything he promised to do if he was elected. Obama vowed he would make a better future for America, one where everyone who wants a job can find one. I believe everything that Romney said about education, Obama Care, and taxes. I believe Romney on educations when he says the parents will know that their child is getting a good education. Romney said that he would lower health care by repealing and replacing Obama care. Then when he says, I will not raise taxes on the middle class I believe him.

Specific examples of the Logos in Mitt Romneys convention speech are that Obama only made things worse since he took office. Obama has failed to slow Iran's nuclear threat. He has thrown allies like Israel under the bus. He said that he would not raise taxes on the middle class. In addition, Obama cannot tell us that it has gotten better since he took office. The government has either stayed the same or gotten ten times worse. Businesses are about helping to build jobs for those who need it, and that the small businesses are a big part in this country. If they get taxed anymore, they will close down and more people will be unemployed. Delivery Mitt Romney is a very prepared public speaker by how he presents himself. He is dressed very professionally for the occasion. He had a list of everything he was going to say throughout the speech. When he was giving his speech, he related to the people of America. He was prepared on what he wanted us to know for when he takes office. He would have interesting facts throughout the whole speech to keep us listing like women are more likely than men to start a business. He stood in the middle of the stage with the podium in front of him, but was projected on a screen so the people in the back could see. One example of the nonverbals that Mitt Romney used in his speech was that he kept good eye contact with the crowd. He would also wave when he got out on stage, recognizing the people there to support him. Mitt Romney talked with voice variations, with hope, and with the future in mind. When he gave his speech, he put a lot of emotion and enthusiasm into his words. Romney never stayed at one vocal level while he was speaking. His hand gestures helped him look natural and made him look calm while he was presenting. He had a big sign behind him that read, Believe in America, which showed his respect and faith in this country. Motivation Enthusiasm is the key to motivation in my judgment because if the speaker is not excited about what he or she wants the crowd to be excited about, then he or she cannot motivate the crowd to agree with them, or in this case, vote for them. Mitt Romney was very motivational by the enthusiasm and the emotion he put into each subject. From childrens education to Obama Care, he had the right amount of enthusiasm throughout the speech. Mitt Romney reminded us to feel how we felt when Obama was elected president. Obama never did the things he said that he would do while in office. Mitt Romney talks about how people attack success and how we dont apologize for success. He mention s how women are a big part in America and that he supports women who are mothers working to support their families. Mitt Romney did a very good job motivating the audience because he knew everything about what he was saying and believed in himself.
