Tom J. Nance and C.W. Goodwin partnered to establish the First National Bank in 1903. Goodwin was Tom Nances brother-in-law. The bank was originally housed on the southwest

corner of 4th and Frisco. In 1935 Frank A. Sewell purchased the bank and moved it to the corner of 5th and Frisco in 1936 as pictured above. His son Frank A Sewell Jr. started with the bank

in 1947, followed by his son, F A Sewell III in 1972. The fourth generation, Frank Sewell IV and Berry, became affiliated with the bank in 1998 and 2003 respectively.

Do you remember that, too?


I remember buying Christmas sweaters at Lady Adeltas. We also got special dresses there. Amy Sewell, Misty Little and I were wrestling homecoming candidates one year, and we got our dresses there. Mine was a black dress with mauve trim. Julie Burden Menge I was away at college at Abilene Christian College when my parents, Virgil and Della Mae Tilley, and my aunt and uncle, R.A. and Alta Lloyd, bought Scotts Quality Shop. Aunt Alta and Mother put their names together to come up with a new name Adelta for the store. My sister Peggy drew the ladys profile that they used for their logo. It was up on the awning, too. Gay Carol Tilley Jack My dad was in insurance, and then he opened

Mr. Js, a mens clothing store. When I was in the 8th grade, his partner was up and gone in the middle of the night, and left Daddy with all the debt. After that I would walk down after school to help with the closeout sale. It was a sad time for my family. Years later, Jacks Flowers and Gifts opened in that building and used Dads J for their business sign up on the awning. Carla Smith Moore
