Gain root access in the single user mode.

Select a to modify the kernel arguments. And append 1 at the end to enter in to single user mode

Now changes selinux status to permissive and change the password. Once the password has been change set the selinux back to enforcing mode.

Reboot the machine and you have the root access password.

Restrict user to make changes to the grub Here we will user grub-md5-crypt to generated encrypted password and add to the grub.conf file.

Edit the /etc/grub.conf Add the encrypted password as shown below. This make grub menu password protected to make changes.

Reboot the system and try to access the machine in single user mode.
