Teaching Experience
C.A. FROST ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE ACADAMY|GRAND RAPIDS, MI STUDENT TEACHER; 5TH GRADE Accepted a long-term substitute teacher position for my cooperating teacher while she was on disability for one and a half months. Developed and implemented engaging, effective lessons in all subject areas for a heterogeneous, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse classroom of 5th grade students. Worked collaboratively with other teachers, and faculty to create effective lessons to meet the individual needs of students. Designed and implemented an interactive science unit on heredity, genes, and DNA using technology and hands-on inquiry based activities to promote student engagement and learning Designed and introduced a new behavior plan which involves technology. The use of a SMART interactive whiteboard, combined with Class Dojo, a behavior management application for iPhone, kept students engaged, and improved classroom behavior. Attended parent/teacher conferences, faculty, and team meetings. Led a child study to assess a behaviorally and academically challenged student from my classroom. Actively participated in assessing student progress, lunch/recess duty, and created a newsletter and website to keep parents informed. JANUARY 2013 - APRIL 2013
