Course Objective: GIS and Remote sensing (IV year I semester) There has been a rapid growth in the

use of digital spatial data in many areas of resource management and the environmental sciences. This course aims to develop both a solid theoretical understanding and a comprehensive practical introduction to the use of geographic information systems and simple modelling using digital spatial data and in decision support. On the satisfactory completion of this course, students will have completed realistic hydrological, erosion, conservation, wildlife habitat, forest, agriculture, fire and knowing models within the geographic information system. The objective of this course is to introduce the theoretical, technical and applied aspects of Remote Sensing for monitoring and managing earth resources. Particular emphasis is placed on the electromagnetic radiation transfer, and data collection with aerial photographic and satellite sensor systems. The course emphasize the theoretical and technical aspects of image acquisition and interpretation. In brief the curriculum covers the following aspects of Remote Sensing & GIS Basic concepts of Remote sensing; optical, thermal and microwave remote sensing; data acquisition; aircrafts and satellites; visual and digital methods of analysis and interpretation of remote sensing data; case studies of various applications of remote sensing. Basic & advance GIS concepts; spatial data models; data structures; database creation and manipulation; map analysis; geo-statistical analysis; 3D GIS; project planning. Managing a GIS project and implementing GIS within an organization & studying the social implications of GIS.
