Action Research Planning Twin Falls - Edmodo in Action Ronald L. Withers Assignment #5 A.

Current practice Communication with students and parents is not completely organized. It is frustrating when students are gone for a day or more and then when they return they ask, What did I miss? Or, during the day I may get a notice from the office or an email from a parent requesting make-up or missing work for the days the student has missed. It takes time to stop what I am doing to collect, copy, organize, and communicate what the student has for make-up work. Consequently, make-up work is not always completed and as a result, student performance suffers. B. I have created an Edmodo group for my classes. I have and will continue to post all daily bell-ringers, assignments, forms, quizzes, and notes directly to the group. It would be helpful to conduct a student and parent survey before implementing this practice (not possible now, since I have already started) to assess current or existing attitudes, experience, perceptions, prejudices, and accessibility. Then, at the conclusion of the grading period I will another survey to reassess those attitudes, etc. Will this practice improve communication between teacher, student, and parents? Will student achievement and performance improve in vocabulary acquisition and retention and in verb conjugation proficiency? C. With all that is posted on Edmodo, I expect communication to improve between teacher, students, and parents. I anticipate that student performance and achievement will improve. I anticipate that the number of missing assignment will decrease. And I believe that the stress and frustration level of both students and teacher to drop. D. I will use several measures to test the effectiveness of using Edmodo. First, I already see and feel the difference when a student (or parent) requests make-up work. I just have to say, Go to Edmodo for all of the work that we have done. Everything is on Edmodo. Let me know if you have any questions. I can look at this years gradebook compared to last years gradebook to see if the grades are better and to count and compare the number of missing assignments from last year compared to this year.
