Production of Peruvian berries will increase every year
The president of Sierra Exportadora, Alfonso Velasquez said that the production of berries would grow by more than 1,000 acres each year starting in 2014, meaning there will be a boom of these fruits in the country. "If large private investment, small producers and State agencies promoters remain committed to the berries, in 2014 Peru will reach the first 1,000 hectares so that it can grow at more than 1,000 new acres every year," he noted. He stressed that the first 1,000 acres of blueberries would lead to, in the medium run, exports for $300 million dollars, which would allow us to achieve the much desired productive inclusion of small and mediumsized producers from the Andes. In this regard, the President of the Agricultural Bank (Agrobanco), Hugo Wiener, said that the institution would support the development of berries in Peru. He projected financing nearly 15 million soles (5,602,841 USD) in ventures of crops of berries for a total of 150 hectares in 2013. He said that the resources Agrobanco will allocate this year will finance productive projects, mainly from small and medium producers of Cranberry and Aguaymanto, in Caete, Huaraz, Trujillo, Chincha, Huacho, Lima and Arequipa.
