SmartCity Kochi outlines fresh application to kick-start Phase-I

Kochi: SmartCity Kochi has drafted and put forth a new application to initiate Phase-I of the project by this June 15. The new proposal has been submitted to gain the environmental clearances for initiating the project work. Briefing about the new proposal submitted, Baju George, Managing Director, Smartcity India said, The fresh submission has been necessitated due to the deferring of environment clearance application by the State Expert Appraisal Committee outlining factual errors and absence of specific environment management plan. He further said that the tender formalities for commencing the works on the first bridge estimates to connect the plots separated by water body, would be started by this July. The project already involves a capital investment of Rs670 crore and discussions are underway to gain more financial assistance from banks for the projects. The four-storeyed building project of 22 lakh sq ft spread over 50 acres will be located on the banks of Kadambraya at Edachira near Kakkanad. The project will be ready in two years timeframe, added George.
