The purpose of this message is to provide an outline for the term paper required for Radiological Environmental Monitoring & Surveillance. The goal is to give a brief introduction to the topic and a summary of what will be learned. Summary Radiological effluent monitoring is an important role in the function of nuclear power generation and other radiological manufacturing processes. The understanding and improvement of devices for monitoring will ultimately allow the user to have more knowledge and better control over releases to the environment during normal operation and in accident conditions. Discussion 1. What is radiological effluent monitoring? a. What types of circumstances require effluent monitoring i. Nuclear power generation ii. Mining iii. Isotope use and production b. Types of effluent monitors i. Active vs. Passive ii. Water c. Stack Gas Monitoring in Nuclear Power Generation i. Operating Conditions & Monitoring Requirements 1. Normal Operation 2. Small Break Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) 3. Large Break LOCA d. How modern technology can improve monitoring and relay information to allow for better plant operation and general knowledge.
