Feedback on Yasheda Intewention Yashoda Intervention was launched on 15" October 2008 with the support of NIPI (Norway India Partnership Initiative). Initially Yashoda worked only during two shifts for first fifteen days i.e. up to 30" October 2008 with no services during night time so that Yashodas could orient and familiarize themselves with the various aspects of functioning of hospital. As per instructions, they started working in rotation of three shifts (8 hour per shift) since the month of November 2008. During the i I fifteen days Yashodas have understood their role and responsibilities. The results which have emerged in the District Hospital post Yashoda Intervention are wonderfully encouraging. Yashadas on Duty in the Maraing Shift Yashods in the Upternoon Shift During the last six months since Yashoda Intervention was initiated, there has been significant improvement i in district hospital was 250 to 275; presently it has reached the number of 300 to 340, itutional deliveries. Earlier the number of deliveries Earlier the institution staff (hospital) did not really care about cleanliness and sanitation in the facility. According to one of the beneficiary, the labour room / ward used to be so dirty she felt suffocated with stink but she Is now surprised with the changes when she recently visited the hospital after a gap of two years. She also expressed that the care provided, the level of cleanliness and sanitation in the labour room / ward in the district hospital is even better than private hospitals. hNIPI ~ A Child Health Initiative to Achieve MDG-4 Page 1 of 4 Madhya PradeshEarlier percentage of early initiation of breastfeeding was extremely low because mother and newborn bay used to be discharged by hospital staff within 2 to 3 hours after the birth. Presently breastfeeding is initiated with the help of Yashoda within 10 to 15 minutes in side the labour room itself as soon as mother acquires normal condition and only then they are shifted out. Earlier percentage of immunization among children was also very low. The immunization percentage has enhanced to 95% due to Yashoda intervention. As per the guidelines (Immunization Calendar), the baby receives BCG, OPV and HBO immunization dose after birth along with bay's immunization card, which Is given to beneficiary after explaining all details and importance of full immunization. Yashada worker conveys Knowledge about nutrition and immunization to family members Uiraugh Hip Chart Yashoda provides knowledge regarding nutritional food to mothers and how mothers can complete their requirement of nutritional elements through reasonably priced food items. This improved health of mother during post natal period. Calcium requirement could be met by drumstick vegetable. Requirement of iron, protein etc. can be met from soybean, Gur (pancakes of dried sugarcane juice) etc. these are least expensive and easily available. Yashoda also discusses matters of family planning, which covers methods of family planning and how they can be made available. The mothers coming back for check-up; first find Yashoda and then get the check- up conducted in her presence.
