MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

United Private Schools Curriculum

If you look closely at United Private Schools
curriculum; you will notice that it has selected
a different approach for its starting point, compared to other schools where they start with
KG and lower classes then expand toward upper classes.

Azza Al-Ismaili
Chairman and CEO

Instead we started with the Math Genius

programme which concentrates on building
programmes concentrating on creating the
scientific, thinking and creative character of
the individual child, since this will enable the
individuals to address all issues logically and
reach the most practical and wisest judgments
possible.
In addition UPS has concentrated on promoting ethics and science because Omanis are
known for their distinguished ethics, and their
warm hearted and friendly disposition based
on our Prophet Mohammads teaching: I was
sent a messenger to complete the good ethics.
The role and importance of science is understood and recognised. It can be achieved easily
through resources which stem from advanced
communication technologies and globalisation. Excellence will be achieved if we manage
to align science and ethics.

June 2013 Edition

We manage to align science, ethics, Omani

traditions, and heritage throughout all our
programmes. This is put into practice by our
qualified and professional teachers. Teachers
are the cornerstone in building a creative generation as confirmed by various studies. One of
the most important studies was conducted by
Barber; who found that the teacher has a big
impact on the students performance and attainment.
UPS is recognised for its modern educational
system which promotes the national spirit of
the students. It is also recognised for its Islamic
and Omani values.
This will be observed once you enter our premises where you will be greeted by the Omani
flag and welcomed by Omani traditions and
culture.

Our Teaching Method

United Private Schools education is a journey of continuous success based on

planning and the hard work
of experienced and professional educators, who work
tirelessly to improve the students talents, skills and proficiencies.
United Private Schools teachers have researched the latest teaching strategies
including learning by play, co-operative
learning, mind maps, and a range of related topics.
The outcomes were presented by the relevant teachers to their colleagues during
two workshops held on Thursday the 18th

of April and Monday the 27th of May

2013.
These research findings are used widely in
the classroom. For example, social studies teachers are using the mind maps in
their day to day teaching, while learning
by doing is a strategy being used by Mr.
Saad in his math lesson, where, he has

simulated the retail market place whilst

delivering a practical lesson on percentages.
In future other useful strategies will be
delivered by our professional educators
and you should notice a difference in your
childs learning.

Teach Me How to Swim

n line with UPS management and the

Sport Education Departments desire to
build an educated generation that is physically fit, various extra-curricular sport
activities were introduced. One such ac-

tivity
organised,
in
collaboration
with the Dolphin
Swim Centre, was
for students from
KG 2 and upwards
to have swimming
lessons.
Teaching children
to swim at an early
age increases their
intelligence. Studies show that four is
the best age at which to start learning to
swim. Despite the fact that some parents
fear that their children may drown and
that swimming is hazardous, this type of
sport holds many advantages such as:

1- It gives children confidence and a sense

of independence.
2- It improves their fitness.
3- Has a positive role for children suffering from lack of attention and hyperactivity.
4- Strengthens the body muscles especially the heart muscle and improves blood
circulation.
5-
Swimming helps children to relax.

Inshad Festival
organised by UPS

On 14th April 2013 our school organised a religious singing festival for charity. The evening was
presented by our students. The religious songs focused on Islamic values such as expressing our
love of the Prophet (PBUH), the love of Oman and the wearing of the Islamic hijab. In addition to
these issues the festival also tackled traffic safety; an urgent issue due to the increasing number of
traffic accidents in Oman.
It is worth noting that our students underwent extensive training courses in the discipline of religious singing and were privileged to be trained by professionals in this
field. The poems and songs presented
were written by a group of Omani writers
and were recorded in special studios. Each
song took a period of one to two weeks to

record and our students put in a great deal

of effort and many late nights in order to
produce a master piece of Islamic singing.
Note that this is the first time such a religious singing festival has been organised
in the Sultanate and was an initiative of
the CEO, staff and students of United Private Schools.

This festival was organized to raise funds

in order to support those with special
needs, especially blind women. We aim to
conduct several training courses for blind
women and organise the printing of special books for their use.

United Private

Aysha Al Rasbiyah

ut of our concern for continued co-operation between our educational institution and the government institutions of
the Ministry of Education, a meeting was
held between the Director of Public Relations and Society Support from United
Private Schools and the Social Studies
teachers in Aysha Al Rasbiyah School.
During the meeting the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences in
the different fields was agreed, since the
support of local society and the different
educational institutions constitute the
prime goal, which our school strives to
achieve for the benefit of others.

June 2013 Edition

Guided by this goal, we actively participated in the activities of their Social Studies Week at Aysha Al Rasbiyah School in
Al Khoudh. One of our students Shahd Al
Nabhaniyah presented a religious chant
on the school stage in the presence of the
Guest of Honour Rodaina Al Hadri, all
the students joined in the chorus.
The guests were then given a presentation providing information on United
Private Schools and its Summer Program
by Ihlam Al Busaidiyah and our Director of Public Relations & Society Support Kawther Al Harthi. There was also
a display featuring the Dept. of Technical
Education which included an Art display
by some of our students. Mr. Abdullah

Al Dhahri presented a Mad Science lesson with special focus on astronomy and
geography in line with the theme of the
Study Week aiming to encourage and motivate students to pay attention to this fascinating subject.
The day ended with an inter-active workshop on Educational Strategies presented
by Mrs Hanan Maraqa. This was much
enjoyed by the audience which included
a delegation from the Ministry of Education, staff and students.
It is hoped that our school and Aysha Al
Rasbiyah School will continue with this
initiative in the future.

Earth Day Celebration

n line with the global concern of protecting

our environment, the idea of celebrating International Earth Day on Monday 22nd of April
became a reality. United Private Schools organised its activities on this day at the Grand Mall
Commercial Centre under the supervision of
Mr Abdullah Al Dhahri and Mrs Khoula Al
Mazroui.
The event started with a student pantomime
where all the students stood still for five minutes to convey an awareness of messages such
as No more pollution, Together we work for
a clean environment, No to sabotage and several other messages drawing attention to the
need for the preservation of the environment
and elimination of contamination. In addition
to these messages the aim was to inform students of their huge responsibilities towards the
Earth.

This was followed

by the Youla dance
and
fascinating
presentations such
as Math Genius and
Mad Science delivered by Mrs Azza
Al Rahbiyah. These
activities were highly welcomed by attendees and visitors
to the Mall, and they
were encouraged to
ask questions about
Earth Day, its importance and their
responsibilities towards the Earth.
In conclusion, the
parents of our students from all the
branches of our
schools appreciated
the educational activities and shows
presented by their
sons and daughters.
