Activity 1 Making questions 1. You are going to fill in the questions-words who (1 X), where (1 X) what (3 X), when (1 X), how( 3 X), which (1 X) and why (2 X) to complete the questions that correspond with the answers that follow, in a text about a famous English heroine. The underlined words in the answer indicate which question-word is appropriate. 1. Question: _____ is this famous English heroine? Answer: This heroine is Edith Cavell 2. you differ, focussing on the underlined words in the answer that are underlined. What clues do they give you? 3. Look at the questions and answers again. Look at the order of the subject (noun or pronoun) and the verb. What are the differences between the order in the questions and in the answers? Try to formulate a rule about the difference in the order. Activity 2 1. You are going to watch a short film about the firefighters of 9/11. 2. Before you watch the film, discuss the following with your neighbour What happened on 9/11? What was the role of the firefighters? How did people feel about the way the firefighters did their job?

3. Watch the film and while you are watching, think about four things you see in the film, you would like to know more about. 4. Write down four questions you would like to know about 9/11 and the firefighters 5. Form pairs and discuss the questions you have written, Concentrating on the form: is the word order correct? Comparing the content of your questions: do you have similar questions or are they completely different? 6. Make one common list of at least six questions you both agree on. 7. Present your list to the class.
