Worksheet 14 I CAN UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRESENT AND PAST EVENTS IN A RANGE OF TEXTS.

I CAN UNDERSTAND TEXTS INCLUDING SOME UNFAMILIAR MATERIAL FROM WHICH I CAN RECOGNISE ATTITUDES AND EMOTIONS.

Step 1: The input of the lesson related to this worksheet consists of a reading text. First let your students start with predicting the content of the text by looking at the title, photo and the first sentences. This means the training of a reading strategy. Then let them read the entire text. This will take about 10 minutes. Step 2: make pairs of two students in order to process the content which consists of making questions by the students themselves concerning the text. Cooperative learning is used because students will answer and check their neighbour. I would advise to give about 20 minutes at least for this part. Then let them design a schema which contains the most important information and let them erase parts of the text that are less necessary for understanding the grid. This is again a training of reading strategies. As students have already an understanding of the text due to the cooperative learning part this should take no more than 10 minutes. Step 3: The processing of the form consists of 2 parts. In this lesson let your students make a vocabulary assignment (matching) which takes the rest of the lesson. If necessary it can also be done at home. This depends of the class and if the processing of the content needs a lot of teacher intervention. The second part of the processing of the form will be explained on worksheet 3 together with the output.
