Brief Description: This is a cosmopolitan shrub commonly found in the northern Sahara, the mountains of central Sahara, and in soils that are slightly salty. It grows between 40 centimeters to 2 meters tall. Rich in salt, it is used as pasture where animals are permitted to browse it for up to 15 days maximum, but after it is necessary to provide other types of non-salt pasture. Local communities collect the seeds, grind them into flour and prepare porridges or cakes with it.
