1. Figure 1 shows a short-circuited coil with dimensions l = 15 cm and d = 20 cm in the magnetic field. The coil is rotated with n = 3000 rpm. How big is the EMF induced in this coil at the moment when it is in a vertical position ( = 0)? Calculate coil current and torque at that moment. Magnetic flux density between poles N and S is 0.5 Tesla. Coil turn resistance is 0.1 ohms. Coil has 80 turns.

2. A flywheel must accelerate to nv = 5 s-1 by time ta = 10 s. Flywheel inertia Jf is 30 kgm2. The flywheel is powered by a motor, whose own inertia Jm is 8 kgm2. The flywheel and the motor are connected via a gearbox with the gear ratio i = nf / nm. a) Calculate the minimum torque required for the acceleration and the corresponding gear ratio i. b) Calculate the motor speed and power.

3. Continuously loaded ski lift carries up the hill 10 skiers in one minute with steady speed. Slope length is 800 meters. How powerful a motor must be chosen for such a lift? The hill slope angle is about 30 .

4. Rated power of a 50 Hz 400 V transformer is 3000 kVA. Its short circuit voltage is 4 %. a) Calculate the short circuit power at the transformer terminals and the short circuit inductance of the transformer.

b) Calculate the starting voltage drop in the terminals of the transformer when a 160 kW, 400 V induction motor is started.

(hw) Solve Task 1 using Matlab. Plot dependence of EMF and required torque from different rotation angles. Neglect the inductance of the coil. Return the m-file as an attachment to Pavel.Ponomarev@lut.fi before 09.11.2012.
