Tropical Storm Chantal Advisory #2
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has indicated that Tropical Storm Chantal has formed East-Southeast of the Windward Islands at approximately 11:00 p.m. last night. In its 5:00am Tropical Storm Advisory # 2, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service stated that Tropical Storm Chantal is centred at about 10.40N latitude and 49.50W or about 1130 km east-southeast of Barbados. Its general movement is towards West-Northwest near 43 kilometres per hour and is expected to continue over the next 24-48 hours. At its current speed and track, Chantal is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles, in the vicinity of Barbados, late Monday night into Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 65km/hr with higher gusts. Tropical Storm force winds extend outward up to 95km from the center. Some strengthening to Chantal is forecast during the next 48 hours. Given the proximity of its center of passage, Chantal may bring instability to weather conditions in Trinidad and Tobago in the form of showers or thundershowers in the least or feeder band activity with heavy showers and thundershowers at worst. The nature of these systems is generally unpredictable so the public should closely monitor all updates being issued by authorities concerning Chantal.
WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT AT THIS TIME, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING.

The ODPM continues to monitor the situation and will update the public accordingly as more information is received from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service. Citizens are also advised to monitor the ODPM website, Facebook and all media for updates.
