Midnight Fire Destroys Home

By: Cole Haggar

Last night at around 1:00am, the household of Maycomb County citizen Miss Maudie Atkinson burned the ground. Everyone in the neighborhood of Brock Street was present at the scene. Neighbours such as Mr. Dick Avery and Atticus Finch were quick to remove as much furniture as possible. I saw the fire right away and rushed right on over to Miss Maudies house to help her out, even got her bed out of there, remarked Mr. Dick Avery about the situation. It is not yet to be confirmed to what the exact reason why the fire caught. It also has to be considered that last night was the first the Maycomb has witnessed a snowfall since 1885. Miss Maudie had said she had left a fire in the kitchen to keep her potted plants warm, Jean Louise Finch told reporters at the scene. The fire was very close to spreading across to neighbouring houses. Miss Stephanie Crawford has opened up her home for Miss Maudie until she builds her new home. Im so thankful that Stephanie has opened her home up, I owe her one for sure, Miss Maudie Atkinson added when asked about staying with Miss Crawford. Three fire trucks were at the scene. The one from Maycombs engine was shot so it was pushed to the scene by multiple men. There was another truck from Abbotsville, and the third came from Clarks Ferry, which is sixty miles away from Maycomb. All and all, nobody was hurt and some articles of furniture were saved, and the Tomlinson Construction Company is starting the re-building of Maudie Atkinsons house tomorrow morning. Maycomb Citizen
