Teacher: Bushra Afreen May 2013

Ali, you have just started few weeks back attending this centre. You are doing really well and now you seem to be much more settled. I have noticed that everyday when your Mum drops you off, you wave goodbye to her. This shows that you trust your teachers. You have learned to rely on other adults. And when your mum goes, you always ask your teachers wheres Mum? and I reply your Mum has gone home. Shell come back after lunch to pick you up. This has helped you making connections with the routines of the day as I often says after lunch, well go outside to play and then your mum will come back. She always does. Bushras Voice: Ali is learning to feel safe in his new environment. As he gains more confidence in his new Setting, he is beginning to establish friendships, which Im sure will help him give a sense of belonging. He is learning that he can rely on other adults. He is starting to trust his teachers and learning to engage with and enjoy the experiences the teachers offer. He is learning that mum always comes back for him. He has also gained an understanding of our daily routines. He is settling in really well.

Where to from here: Engage Ali in small group experiences with other children; sit him with children at meal times where friendships begins. Engage him in conversations to recall things he has particularly enjoyed, ex: you can tell mum about that, maybe you can play with Leena when you come next (enjoyed playing with Leena in the sandpit)
