I.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the obstructed distance between two points

II. MATERIALS: Measuring Tape Marking pins

III. PROCEDURE: 1. Assume that the required distance is between the points A and B. From point A, select a point facing the line AB and mark it as point C using the marking pin, thus, forming lines AC and BC. 2. Between the lines AC and BC, select a point on each line and mark it as points D and E using marking pins, thus, forming straight lines ADC and BEC. 3. Then, using the tape, measure the distances of lines CA, CD, CB, and DE. 4. Using the formula [CD/CA=CE/CB], the distance between point C and point E is calculated. 5. Using the similar triangle again, the required distance between A and B is computed as: [CD/CA=DE/AB]

IV. DATA AND COMPUTATION: B

E D C

i. finding for the distance between C and E CD/CA=CE/CB 10/50=CE/117.35 CE= 23.47 m ii. finding for the distance AB CD/CA=DE/AB 10/50=53.42/AB AB=267.1 m

V. CONCLUSION : Therefore, a certain obstructed distance can be measured using the similar triangle method by constructing two triangles using surveying instruments and methods.
