Strategic, Collaborative Governance & Decision-making

(a) Understand and develop coherent organizational structures and policies that improve the equity and overall performance of the educational system. In my words: Create a learning organization focused on equity, excellence and teaching and learning that aligns organizational structures and policies in support of student achievement. (b) Generate, allocate, and manage resources in alignment with improvement and equity goals. In my words: Align and deploy resources with the fundamental goals of equity, excellence and continuous improvement.

Claim: I align organizational structures within my influence in support of creating a focus on continuous improvement centered on student achievement. Evidence: Created a special education leadership advisory team to serve as a think tank and communication system to improve the departments overall performance. Through the building leadership team, designed and then allocated resources to create a tier-two intervention system at Bailey Gatzert and West Mercer Elementary Schools.

Claim: I align and deploy resources in order to achieve the fundamental goals of equity, excellence and continuous improvement. Evidence: Captured the JobAlike time for the speech & language pathologists, school psychologists and OT/PT groups to focus their work on student achievement and their professional growth. In my words: Seek out opportunities to engage in inquiry-based conversation in policy, legal and political arenas about improving learning opportunities for all students.

Claim: I find strategic entry points in order to identify, engage and influence the broader policy and political environment in inquiry based conversations around improving learning opportunities for students. Evidence: Edit district policies and procedures to ensure alignment with the most current thinking around equity and achievement for students with learning differences. Ask questions to further clarify how policy and procedure decisions advantage and disadvantage groups of students and their families. Increased my knowledge and understanding in regards to how to engage the business community in supporting public education through the year long Leadership for Clark County experience (small group project on changing demographics in Clark Co.).

(d) Build the capacity of educators and community members to collaborate in ongoing systemic improvement to ensure a highquality education for every student In my words: Work in collaboration to collectively increase the value and capacity of each other through organizational avenues and based on the belief that all students are entitled to high quality education.

Claim: I can identify key people and positions in the central office that can influence and lead ongoing systemic improvement. Evidence: Know who influences who in making decisions that impact teaching and learning through the allocation of resources: garnered additional nurse and school psychologist FTE to more effectively meet the needs of students. Claim: I can empower teachers to contribute to the mission, vision and goals of the system. Evidence: Created the special education advisory team and tasked them with creating a mission and vision built from whole department Caf Conversations.

(e) Develop and guide decision processes that maximize collaborative problem solving and continuous improvement. In my words: Implement decision-making processes based on authentic engagement in the inquiry process. Think win-win.

Claim: I design and implement decision-making process that are based on authentic engagement Evidence: Engaged the entire special education staff in Caf Conversations to address the question: How do we address the tension between measurements of student progress, individualization and readiness for life, career and college? Responses were used to develop mission, vision and goals through the work of the special education leadership advisory team (made up of teachers and other special education staff). Claim: I practice ethical leadership by having integrity and courage and by utilizing conflict resolution strategies. Evidence: Practice listening for meaning (seeking to understand) when meeting with parents who are disenfranchised and dissatisfied with the services their children are receiving and facilitate coming to resolution; I follow through on commitments. Respectfully discussed issues of how the district sustains the opportunity gap with the superintendent (spoke my truth).

(f) Model transparent and ethical leadership and address sources of conflict productively and equitably. In my words: Work collaboratively to develop organizational norms and ensure a continuous feedback loop to reevaluate and recharge. All levels of the organization walk the talk.
