Adaption for special needs For Ashlyn (hearing impaired): Ashlyn should be able to do this activity on her own but because there is a lot of instructions to follow the teacher should breaks the students into small groups so the teacher can come close to the students and explain the activity - that way Ashlyn is able to hear and understand what is happening. The teacher will visit each small group of children so that group does not feel singled

out. The teacher should provide the class with an example of the final product so Ashlyn, and the other students, have a good idea of what they are suppose to make. For Jackson (Motor skills problems): Model magic is a good way for Jackson to exercise his fine motor skills he is able to squeeze and play with the clay. However, if Jackson wishes to use paper and markers to make his animals there should be markers with special grips available to him and the other students. Resources Examples of mobiles Books on animals A classification of animals chart for the students too look at

Notes and reflections This is a good project for students to be hands on and learn about social studies. The teacher should make sure that the hangers that are used are safe without sharp points for the children to hurt themselves with. Variations/ Other possibilities For older students this would be a good way for them to present what he or she has learned about animals and the different classifications. This can be used for book reports and other fun projects.
