interviewed: Ms. Foote (a 9th grade English teacher) Ms. Hart (a multi-level Spanish teacher) Ms. Lerer (a 9th & 12th grade English teacher and department chair of English) Ms. Flemming (a multi-level Reading teacher) Their responses: About Dissatisfaction with the status quo: - All teachers agreed that there is currently dissatisfaction with the technology at our school because we lack it significantly. Other schools have smart boards and TVs in every classroom, whereas we have to fight to have an LCD projector and to schedule the mobile lab. Knowledge and Skills exist: - The teachers admitted that there are people in the building with the knowledge and skills to utilize new technology, but it is not in the masses. Most people only know the basics. Resources and Time available: - All teachers agreed that resources at our school are limited, and that even if we were given the resources, we probably would not be given the time to properly learn them. Ms. Hart said that she rarely uses the mobile lab because it is almost always booked up and she doesnt want to put in farther out dates at random because she would like the lessons with the mobile lab connected to the material she is teaching in class. Other foreign language teachers just use the lab for Quia games that are often unrelated to what they are currently teaching. Rewards and Incentives/Participation is encouraged: - Ms. Flemming brought up the point that there are no real rewards and incentives for using technology at our school. It may make you evaluation go better, but otherwise there is nothing formal. Ms. Foote pointed out that this is contradictory because often in interviews they always ask about your use of technology in the classroom. It seems as if there is no follow through. - This also brings up the point that participation is encouraged, however, it doesnt really make a difference to administration if we use technology or not (or at least it doesnt seem that way). Commitment/Leadership: - All of the teachers felt that if the staff wanted some sort of technology, the administration would support them in attaining that technology, be it through grant writing or finding funds. However, administration is not very pursuant to getting new technology in the school. It mostly needs to be staff driven.

In bringing up the English mobile lab idea, Ms. Lerer agreed that it would make sense for this to happen, but there have been other schools where this was piloted and it was taken away. She was not sure of the reason why. Ms. Hart thought it would be a good idea as long as we were given the funds to purchase a new lab because it would possibly give her more of an opportunity to plan to use the lab. I then proposed to them my second plan of technology innovation in having a 9th grade technology introduction (half credit) course. All agreed that this would be a brilliant idea given that they are hesitant to assign technology projects because not all students have the skills necessary to complete those projects and they find they do not have the time to incorporate that into their teaching.
