Aavishkaar This year Aavishkaar, a social initiative undertaken by NITC, focuses on a Government LP School located in Chetyalanthur,in the Noolpuzha

panchayath , Sultan Batheri. Lacking many of the basic facilities, this tribal school has student strength of 30 guided by 4 teachers. Since the community is loacated inside a reserve forest, the Government is trying to relocate the families and this is a major reason for the lack of electricity and any further development in this area including the Govt. aided School. The primary school is meant for the children belonging to the 135 families in this tribal community. The Government provided computers though nothing was done to bring electricity or improve the pitiful state of human lives in this community. Even though the school has large areas of land lying waste, it cannot be developed into cultivable land due to threat from wild animals. We are trying to set an example by helping this underprivileged tribal community in whatever way we can and teaching them new methods to improve their standard of life. Installation of solar panels to bring electricity is off primary importance. This would help the tribal society and especially the students, and their education. We plan on setting up a few computers in the school so that the students get basic knowledge about its functioning and uses. Ways and means of better communication are also going to be implemented, so as to provide much needed attention for this society from the outside world. Lighting facilities in houses are also going to be setup so as to help the families utilize their time and provide more safety to the society. The one and half acres of land which is part of school property is going to be properly fenced , thus ensuring safety for the students and making available land which would be perfect for cultivation. These dense forests have a very good supply of water, and good soil which will only favor the cause. A small area of the school property is going to set aside for setting up a small recreational area for the children. Books and toys which would help and encourage learning are going to provided. A small effort to help an isolated society, such as this, is to bring out issues that many people in India face, and which are often overlooked by the rest of the human community. Thus, by bringing much needed attention to such matters , we hope more people get involved and help underprivileged communities lead a better way of life.
