RQ1. What is Plagiarism? Plagiarism is the act of taking another persons writing, conversation, song, or even in idea and passing it off as your own. Plagiarism is using someone elses words and ideas in a paper and acting as though they were your own. Plagiarism is a form of cheating because its stealing another persons ideas. Plagiarism is the wrongful appropriation and purloining and publication of another authors language, thoughts, ideas or expressions and the representation of them as ones own original work. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. Plagiarism is defined by the Honor Council document as the acts of passing off as ones own the ideas or writings of another. Plagiarism as copying anothers work or borrowing someone elses original ideas. Copying and borrowing can disguise the seriousness of the offense. RQ2. What are some reasons for committing Plagiarism? 1. Deliberate plagiarism a. Because you do not have the time to do the work yourself b. Because you do not have the energy to do the work yourself. c. Because you think your lecturer will not notice.

d. Because you think your lecturer will not care. e. Perhaps, because you are not able to do the work yourself. It can involve: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. Copying another students work; Copying another persons work from a book or a journal; Copying another persons work from a web-site; Asking another person to do the work for you; Downloading the complete text from the internet; Buying the text from the internet; Or even paying for someone to do the work for you.

2. Accidental plagiarism a. You do not know that you must not copy a persons words directly; b. You do not have the skill for expressing another persons ideas in your own words; c. You do not know the correct systems for indicating that you are using another persons words or ideas;
