Ad Hominem Fallacy

Posted on July 24, 2013 by sapnasaurabh Living in the corporate world, you are prone to face situations where you fall into an argument or uninvited advises. Good if the argument is with a person whom we dont speak much. But in case we have an argument with a person whos always been an eye sore to us, situation can worsen. We are living in the times where we have lost all our tolerance and capabilities to work on relationships. We fall into arguments and once we see ourselves loosing or devoid of any good remarks, we immediately switch to ad hominem. People are today using it as a tool to win arguments. I find it very unethical. When into an argument we should always maintain our standards. Instead of undermining the speakers argument we attack the speaker. Here the recommendation is to analyze every situation before opening that big mouth. Be ethical, yes even then when you are arguing. Focus on defending your argument rather than attacking the speaker. ad hominem argument is a rhetorical tool use it legitimately. The use of ad hominem is frequently augmented during American political campaigns, but is seldom logically certified. Personal criticisms are logically pertinent to decide who should be voted. Of course, such denigration may be logically relevant but factually erroneous. Always access the person in front of you in the following parameters: 1. Context

2. Conflict: Does the person have any intention or per-disposition that makes their advice be wary of? Next time you fall into an argument, avoid Ad Hominem.
