Date of Activity: Fall 2012 Title of Artifact: 5-E Science Probes Course: EDCI 5360

Course objective(s) addressed

1. Use a range of learning models to plan, implement and adjust instructional decisions. 2. Appropriately implement a variety of instructional models in response to student needs. Artifact Description
This work sample was created in EDCI 5360 as a requirement for the course. It displays a lesson plan written in the 5-E format. It is used to teach science concepts such as gravity and centripetal force.

Relationship to NBPTS Standards

This artifact demonstrates knowledge of three Middle Childhood/Generalist Standard(s). III. Understanding Science Teaching This artifact shows that I know the best practices in teaching science IV. Engaging the Science Learner Engage is the first step to this lesson VIII. Making Connections in Science This lesson connects learning with previous experiences

Background of Artifact
In EDCI 5360 we were to create a lesson plan in our ideal model to show our beliefs on teaching. I chose to use the 5-E model to tech a science lesson. I feel this teaching style is the most affective when trying to attain science information. It allows students to investigate and come to conclusions on their own. The 5-E model lends itself to science well because students are able to explore concepts with hands on activities with every lesson.

Reflection on Learning Demonstrated in this Work Sample

From completing this assignment, I have learned how just by manipulating the lesson plan template a learning activity can vary greatly. This artifact will affect my classroom by ensuring that I use the most effective lesson plan style for science instruction. I will use what I have learned from this artifact to continue challenging my students and allowing them to attain concepts though self-discovery and experimentation.
