Recent child safety seat check events found that not one of 55 seats checked at one event and only one of 91 seats at another event were installed correctly, with 15 deemed unsafe. The results prompted Albany County to continue providing free child safety seat check programs with certified technicians to help ensure proper installation and protect children's safety in vehicles. The next event will be held on August 7th in Voorheesville.

Albany County Holds Child Safety Seat Check Program in Voorheesville
Following two recent child safety check events, it is clear that despite the best of intentions parents and caregivers may need assistance when it comes to the safe installation of car seats for children. At a seat check event held on July 17 at Crossgates Mall, technicians found that not one of the 55 seats checked was installed correctly. At another event at Colonie Center in June, 91 seats were checked and only one had been installed correctly and 15 seats were deemed unsafe for use. These results are eye-opening and potentially hazardous. These results are troubling and we will continue to provide these events to the community so we can protect kids in vehicles, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy said. These free events feature Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from around the Capital Region who are there to help save lives. Anyone who has a child and uses a car seat should take advantage of this program. The seat check program will be held on Wednesday, August 7th from 3:30- 6:30 p.m. at the Voorheesville Farmers Market at the United Methodist Church, at 68 Maple Ave. in Voorheesville. The event is sponsored by: Albany County, Albany County DPW Traffic Safety Education Program, Capital Region SAFE Kids Coalition, NYS Governors Traffic Safety Committee Sears of Colonie Center ### Mary Rozak Director of Communications Office of the Albany County Executive 112 State Street, Room 825 Albany, NY 12207 tel 518.447.7040 ext. 7218 fax 518.447.5589 mary.rozak@albanycounty.com www.albanycounty.com
