RobertUnfollow Follow Robert Robert Beltz Two areas of concern that tweak my mind at this moment.. First, MCCB is usually good to 1600 and I believe a few manufacturers make 2000 ampere. However, I believe that these may be classified as insulated case breakers. Air circuit breakers are good to 4000 amperes.. The other aspect is interrupting capacity. MCCB's can have 100ka and I believe that a few ACB's are good for 100ka, but most are 65kA. The big difference is cost. MCCB's are typically less expensive. The most important part of any breaker is the trip unit. If your system will involve selective coordination, it is important that you use trip units with LSI elements. Depending on what is downstream and upstream, you may want a trip unit that allows turning off the Instantaneous element. However, be aware that these trip units will have a descriminator element which is instantaneous and NOT adjustable. This can result is miscoordination with downstream devices

having instantaneous elements unless they are separated by a significant impedance. Essentially, a careful examination of the trip unit characteristics is very important and may be part of the decision between MCCB and ACB. I sincerely hope this is of some assistance. 2 days ago Unlike Like
