What is Star Homework?

Star homework allows you and your child to choose how much homework they do nightly. The only required homework is that your child reads and does math for at least 15 minutes a night. Other choices are given to assist you in tailoring homework to your childs needs. o Spelling Practice- If your child is struggling with this weeks spelling o Letter to the Teacher- If your child needs extra writing practice. o Bonus Reading/Math- extra time in both areas is always beneficial.

Reading and Math:

Students are to log onto studyisland.com for a total of 30 minutes a day; 15 minutes reading and 15 minutes math. Study Island allows us to monitor your childs growth and individualize their instruction. What if students cannot get online? Students can complete the attached reading log and it will count as their reading. For math, you will need to request paper homework which will include basic skill practice.

Spelling Practice:
Each week your child will be given a list of words to study. There are a variety of example activities you can do with your child listed on our webpage: www.patriots2.weebly.com. Your child will be tested on these words every Friday, please use their pretest to gage whether or not your student needs to complete spelling practice every night.

Letter to the Teacher:

Students can write a letter to me about ANYTHING they wish. It must be over a half a page long and written in neat handwriting (or typed) in order to earn a star. A friendly letter template will be provided. Writing is the weakest subject for most students and is highly encouraged! Students may also EMAIL the teacher if they like.

When is Homework Due?

Homework is due on Monday. We understand that both you and your child may have various activities to throughout the week like sports or clubs. Having homework due on Monday gives your family the freedom of completing homework over the weekend if needed.

Bonus Reading/Math:
Students need to read and do math for at least 15 minutes. Any time spent on study island, reading a book, or math practice beyond 15 minutes (per subject) count as bonus.
