ABSTRACT The Relationship between the Behavior of Extermination DBD Breeding Place (PSN) and the Density of Larva

of Aedes Mosquito in Malalayang Subdistrict, Manado, 2011 The density of larva of Aedes mosquito that is used as a measuring rod in an effort to exterminate vector through PSN (Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk)-3 M (Menutup, Mengubur, Menguras), indicates the level of people participating in preventing DBD (Demam Berdarah Dengue). Therefore, the approach of DBD examination that have a conception of people concern toward the matter is one of the new alternative approaches. The attempt to observe the increasing cases of DBD in every moment is very needed to do by the examination staff or cadre through surveillance activity including vector surveillance by observing the mosquitos' larva. The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between the behavior of exterminator of DBD mosquito's breeding place (PSN) and the density of larva of Aedes mosquito at Malalayang Subdistrict, Manado City. This research used a Cross Sectional Method. The number of people as the sample research is 200 respondents and it used Simple Random Sampling. This research used the secondary data that took from BTKL and PP (Balai Teknik Kesehatan Lingkungan dan Pengendalian Penyakit) in Manado. Malalayang Subdistrict has a high rate of larva density that is 50% with a good level of knowledge of the respondents, 61%, did a good action of PSN, 51,5%, and the attitude toward PSN is less, that is 76,5%. There is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the density of larva of the Aedes mosquito, with chi square (p = 0,030). There is a significant relationship between attitude or behavior and the density of larva of Aedes mosquito, with chi square ( p = 0,045). There is a significant relationship between the action of PSN and the density of larva of Aedes mosquito, with chi square ( p = 0,002). In conclusion, there is a correlation between the behavior of extermination DBD breeding place (PSN) and the density of larva of Aedes mosquito. The better its level, the less density of larva of Aedes mosquito. Key words: The behavior of PSN, The density of larva of Aedes mosquito.
