Student ID & Network Login September 2013

*Bring this sheet with you during your first week in college

YOUR COLLEGE ID CARD


Your ID badge gives you access to the college and allow you to access printing services. Therefore you must wear it at all times when in college. It will : Give you access to the college buildings Allow you to login to network services (Network, Moodle, WIFI, Firefly and Email) Ability to take out library books Release print jobs from printers All exams and exam results require a college ID badge

Your login for all the college systems is now active and is your college id number for your username and your default password is the month and year you were born eg :Username 1100315 Password OCTOBER1992 Once in college you can change your password, but you can now use this login to access both Moodle and Firefly before you start lessons, using the default password. You should login to Firefly and Moodle before coming into college on Friday 6th September (Year 12 Induction Day).

Getting Started
Firefly Screening Assessment Firefly is an important online resource you must login in to on a regular basis. It contains your attendance information, pastoral log, up to date time table and other vital college information. You must complete a basic diagnostic assessment via the Firefly site. This should be done at home as soon as possible it can be done before you start at the college. We recommend you do this by Friday 6th September you can access this from home by :Go to http://firefly.stmarysblackburn.ac.uk and use your default login to access Firefly Once you have logged in select the option My Screening Assessment from the left hand side of the screen. The assessment takes approximately 40 minutes to complete, we recommend you complete this assessment on a PC and read each question carefully. Please note the assessment will not work on a tablet device. If you cannot access the assessment at home you will be given the opportunity to complete it in college.

Logging into the Network


To login to the college network, Moodle and Firefly you will need to type in your College ID Number as your username and your default password (month and year of birth). We recommend when you login you change your password immediately (cntrl+alt+delete and select change password). Both Moodle and Firefly passwords are linked, when you change your network password both these will change at the same time. Accessing Moodle To access Moodle go to http://moodle.stmarysblackburn.ac.uk you can login with your network login further details on getting started and enroling on courses can be found on the front page of Moodle or on the IT Support Help Blog. College Email Your college email address is printed on your badge to login to your smc email,

follow the email link on Moodle or go to http://mail.office365.com your login id is your full email address eg. 1100315@smcblackburn.ac.uk and again your password is your month and year of birth with no spaces. It is vital you access your email at least once a week, or set up a rule forwarding all mail to your own email account. To forward email to a different email account do the following :1- Login to your college email account 2- At the top right of the screen click options see all options 3- The select forward your email 4- Under forwarding put in your preferred email address and then click start forwarding Not reading your college email may result in you missing vital or important college information. College Printing To release print jobs from the college MFD printers you will need to first encode your ID card on the MFD printer (this is done just once). Full instructions on how to encode your ID badge and how to use the print facilities are found on Moodle and in your Q drive (home area). If you are having issues or need some help on using this system please see the technicians in the IT support area or the staff members on the library top floor. Wi-Fi The college has free Wi-Fi across the college. You can bring in and use your own laptop or tablet device. Instructions on how to access the Wi-Fi can be found on Moodle and the IT support blog. Finally There are demos and user guides available by going to http://smcitsupport.blogspot.co.uk with details on how to get up and running with Moodle. If you have any problems access any of the system please email p.holmes@stmarysblackburn.ac.uk or see the technicians in the Open Access area or the Library. Please complete the Firefly Screening Assessment as soon as you can - it will allow the college to support your individual learning needs.
