Introduction
Title Introduction Task You have just been appointed Ambassador to Peru by the President of the United States ! Your appointment starts in just two short weeks and you will have a lot of preparations to get ready for your new post. Unfortunately your Spanish is rusty and you will need to brush up before you go. You will need to practice your speech to the awaiting Peruvian dignitaries as you step off your private jet. Remember, you are representing your country and your Spanish must be flawless.

You will also need to know about the history of Peru and the background of its indigenous peoples. How can you be the Ambassador without any cultural knowledge?! Time to get cracking ! You dont want anyone in Peru to know that you just started brushing up on these facts two weeks ago. Make sure you show your international expertise.

Title Introduction Task

TASK
1. You will choose a partner 2. One partner will be the Ambassador and the other will be the Peruvian dignitary. 3. Both of you will design a 10-15 minute dialogue using the vocabulary indicated on the following page. 4. You will both need an appropriate costume to play the part. Props are welcomed. 5. You will turn in a double spaced typed transcript of your dialogue. Not longer than two pages in length. 6. For the cultural portion you will research Peru in the links provided and create a joint poster board outlining the 5 most important cultural and historical aspects of Peru.

After you have decided upon the appropriate vocabulary, you will split the two roles up and start your script. 5. Microsoft Office has a script template for your finished written product. 6. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/screenplayTC001018636.aspx?CategoryID=CT011389701033 7. Both group members must participate in the creation of the oral and written product. Please dont be dishonest and let one person do all the work ! That is not fair ! 8. In addition to your oral and written presentation you will need to begin gathering cultural background knowledge on Peru. There is no right or wrong answer about what you can use as background cultural information. Here are a few videos you might want to look at as you decide a direction on your research. 9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEI9UW_zVU4 10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7QNZVwSSXk&feature=related 11. Remember, you only need five cultural attributes on your poster board. These videos will give you some ideas about what to focus on. Some examples could be the style of dance or the colonial period or the indigenous contributions to the society. Be creative ! 2. 3.

Title Introduction Task
When you have completed this activity, you will have increased your speaking ability and you will feel more confident interacting with one another in Spanish. Your vocabulary will also be expanded in the area of travel and perhaps politics and culture as well. Tying the cultural aspects of Peru into your presentation gives you a context for the new language you are learning. You are more likely to remember and incorporate this vocabulary into your Spanish learning if it has contextual meaning. Title Introduction Task
I am a graduate student at the University of Maryland University College. I am obtaining my MAT in Secondary Education with Spanish as my content area. This Spanish lesson is appropriate for 9th or 10th grade high school Spanish classes. This lesson builds upon previous vocabulary and sentence structure knowledge. This is not for a beginning class. Students should be independent enough to use the provided resources to research new vocabulary and cultural aspects. These web sites are only a beginning. Students should be independent enough to continue research on their own. Suggested additional materials would be the class textbook and a good dictionary. Students are encouraged to be creative. They should incorporate as many creative elements into their design as possible. Music is also encouraged. This assignment should be given out two weeks in advance. Allow time for two to three presentations in each class period. I would also like to thank the following web sites The WebQuest Page and The WebQuest Slideshare Group and http://questgarden.com/ I also owe a big thank you to the following web sites that I am using in my instruction
