Welcome!
Thank you for allowing me the past week to get to know your children! I am truly thankful that I have a wonderful class of sixth graders. The first week of school was full of learning expectations, procedures and getting to know each other. We also completed some pretesting so that I can see what each student remembers in reading, mathematics and writing. This week we will be starting up right away with Journeys and GoMath curriculum! We will be jumping right in and I will be assessing students all along the way to make sure that instruction is tailored to their needs.
Make sure your student completes their 4 Spelling Contract assignments by Friday!
Auction Donations
A couple of major assignments to be aware of this week are: -All About Me writing project, which includes a speech -Classroom Job assignments & practice -Weekly spelling test (with Spelling Contract as homework due on Friday)
With Classroom Economy comes a special sort of reward. Our first auction will be held on Friday, September 27th. Students who have completed their responsibilities that come with their classroom jobs will receive their salary, any bonuses their received, pay desk rent, and have fines taken out of their account. After this has occurred, if they have left over money they will be able to participate in the auction. Our class needs prizes for our auction. We dont need anything that costs over $10. Sports equipment, gift cards, & small toys are some prizes that you can donate if you are able!
Classroom Library
Because this is my first year teaching a selfcontained classroom, I do not have as many books in my classroom library as I would like. We also do not have much for a school library. If you have novels or non-fiction books lying around your house, please think about donating them to my classroom. They can be at any reading level because we have a diverse class of readers. Also, look into going to a Phoenix public library to get your student novels to check out! Those will be a great thing for your students to have at home and at school for silent reading time.
Reminders to Students
Bring lunch money on or before
Uniforms
Due to the shortage a Simply School Uniforms, we will allow students to where plain polos of any color until the end of September. Starting October 1st, they must wear a polo every day that has a LFPA logo. The logo must also be visible at all times. Consult the student handbook at the front of the student agenda for dress code instructions. *Returning LFPA students from the Gilbert campus may wear any color polo this year as long as it has the LFPA logo. New students are required to wear only royal blue, gray and white polos.
Reminders to Parents
A September lunch menu was sent home last Friday. Please give your student money for whatever days they will be buying or eating school lunch. They will need to take it to the front office to pay. It is DUE Wednesday, August 28th! Sign your students planner every night! This ensures that they get credit for their 20 minutes of reading every night. It is also a good way to check in on what they have been learning.
