0‐4 Boys and Girls
1. Barrels: Contestant uses stick horse for pattern. Barrels will be placed 12 feet
apart. Penalties: 5 seconds for parent helping with pattern. 5 second penalty for
broken pattern. Unbroken pattern time will be placed over broken pattern time.
Contestant who completes pattern without help will be given placing over one
receiving help.
5‐7 Boys and Girls
1. Goat tail untying: Contestant will remove ribbon and run back across starting
line. Goat will be on five foot rope and released by holder when contestant
crosses starting line.
2. Barrels: Contestant uses horse for pattern. Penalty: Five second for tipped
barrel. Contestant who completes pattern without help will be given placing
over one receiving help. Broken pattern is NT.
3. Dummy Roping: Contestant ropes three times. Time starts when contestant
starts the swing and ends when slack is pulled.
8‐10 Boys
1. Flag Race: Contestant must remain on horse. A dropped flag or tipped bucket is
considered a no time.
2. Dummy Roping: Contestant must stand back of line drawn by judges before
roping. NT if line is crossed. Contestant ropes three times.
8‐10 Girls
1. Poles: Five second penalty for tipped poles.
2. Barrels: Five second penalty for tipped barrel.
3. Dummy Roping: Contestant must stand back of line drawn by judge
before roping. NT if line is crossed. Contestant ropes three times.
11‐14 Boys
1. Ground Calf Tying: Time starts when contestant’s hand leaves the post.
2. Flag Race: Contestant must remain on horse. Dropped flag or tipped bucket is
considered a no time.
15‐18 Boys
1. Team Roping: Contestant must designate if header or heeler when entering
rodeo. Contestant must also designate partner on entry blank. Partner may be
drawn if necessary. Points will not count for drawn partner.
2. Steer Wrestling: Barrier is used for steer wrestling.
3. Calf Roping: Barrier is used for calf roping.
15‐18 Girls
1. Team Roping: Contestant must designate if header or heeler when entering
rodeo. Contestant must also designate partner on entry blank. Partner may be
drawn if necessary. Points will not count for drawn partner.
2. Barrels: Five second penalty for tipped barrel.
3. Poles: Five second penalty for tipped pole.
4. Breakaway: Barrier is used.
General Rules
1. NHSRA rules are used for reference.
2. Positions will be drawn for each event at each rodeo prior to rodeo.
3. Ties: Ties are broken for year end awards by fast time at the last rodeo.
4. Chute Dogging: Does not count for All‐Around. If contestant competes in
steer wrestling, he cannot compete in chute dogging.
5. Year‐end points and All‐Around: Points are compiled during the series of five
rodeos and awards given based on highest points earned. Chute dogging does
not count for all‐around. You must enter two rodeos to be considered for the
all‐around award and year‐end event winners. Points are awarded as follows:
First‐11 points Fourth‐5 points
Second‐9 points Fifth‐3 points
Third‐7 points Sixth‐1 points
EXHIBITION BARREL RACING
1. $2‐ Pay at the gate.
2. Everyone runs once before second run.
3. No trotting.
4. No circling barrel twice.
