Dear Walker Families: Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! On behalf of the faculty and staff at Walker School, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you. We hope that you have had time to spend relaxing and enjoying the relationships that are very important to our lives. School staff has been busy this summer preparing Walker School for all of us. Our custodial crew has cleaned and painted every inch of the building around the installation of 8 new doors. We are very excited about the new doors because they will make moving around each learning environment easier, make each space more open and comfortable, but most of all, kids will be able to collaborate and learn in additional ways. This year our district/school motto is Every Child Counts, which sums up our mission and the reason all of our classrooms will be Next Generation Learning Communities (NxGLC). We want this to be more than just a theme, but rather the way we do business every day.
We will be hosting Parent Information Night Wednesday, September 11th from 4:00 to 8:30 P.M. We will get exact times out to you as soon as we can. Each classroom will be open for you to conference with your childs teachers. PTA is sponsoring a pizza dinner, so you can spend as much time as you want at school and feed your family as well. We have a totally new PTA this year and we would love to have your support as they provide a great deal to the staff and students at Walker. Please log on and befriend us on Facebook so that you will get all messages immediately to your email. We can be found at @ Walker Elementary West Allis. We will continue the phone messenger and paper copies of newsletters etc. This is just another way we can keep you informed!!!

MEDICATIONS PROCEDURES
At times during the school year, it may be necessary for children to take various medications. These can be prescription or non-prescription medications. Parents are reminded that the School District has specific policies regarding school personnel administering medications during the school day.
For all PRESCRIPTION medications, a permission form signed by the parent/guardian and the child's doctor must be placed on file in the school office. Copies of the permission forms are in the school office. For all NON-PRESCRIPTION medications, the same permission form must be signed by the parent and placed on file in the school office. Without all completed forms school can not administer any medications and it will be necessary for the parent to come to school and administer the medication Medication will need to be brought to the school office by the parent/ guardian in the original container with the students name and room # on. (no medications are to be brought into school by students)
In both cases, this form should include all necessary information for properly administering the medication, including dosage, duration, and time of administration.
WEATHER SHELTER AREAS A Shelter Open sign will be placed in the window of the north, south and N5 entrance as a signal to the student that they may enter and wait in the corridor at 8:15 a.m. during days of inclement weather. On all other days the students are to remain outside unless they have a teacher pass.
Also, there is an asthma form that must be completed for any student who suffers from asthma. School personnel should under no circumstances provide medications to students without all criteria in the aforementioned section. Again students are not allowed to transport prescription or non-prescription to and from school.
