Fall Assessment In September, schools across District 25 take part in all types of formal and informal assessments to gather more informa;on about our students academically. We use AIMSweb reading benchmarks as assessment tools. They are simple and accurate tools that provide teachers with important informa;on on your childs progress in reading year to year and throughout the year. Kindergarteners are asked to iden;fy leFer names and pictures. Students in rst through Hh grade read grade-level passages called R-CBM (Reading-Curriculum Based Measurement). Teachers count the number of words each student reads correctly and how well he or she reads the passage. New this year to grades K-2, we will also be engaged in Fountas and Pinnell benchmarking to inform dieren;ated instruc;on and guided reading. The Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System consists of a series of carefully designed benchmark books that measure the level of diculty at which a student is able to read c;on and nonc;on texts. The books range in diculty from those for beginning readers (A) to those for advanced readers (Z). Teachers meet one-on-one with students to help determine their instruc;onal levels. Across the district, the decision was made not to test all students in NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment this fall. It is felt that the spring data collected year to year is what is most needed to eec;vely monitor students progress in the areas of reading and mathema;cs. New students and various iden;ed groups of students may engage in fall or winter MAP tes;ng, as it is felt the addi;onal data and informa;on is needed. Birthday Books Ivy Hill families have the opportunity to donate a book to our LMC in honor of their childs birthday. Your child will be able to choose a new book from the LMC to which we will add a special name plate with his/her name. If you would like your child to par;cipate in this program, please see this weeks online Friday Packet yer.
