Make Good Choices Use Good Manners Speak Only When Teacher Allows It Involve Yourself In Activities Care for Music Room and Equipment

Start Class with a Routine:

Students are instructed to begin class in their assigned row or circle spots on the floor. With the opening activity/song, all students are expected to participate.

Review Expectations:
Rules are posted in the front of the room. As the class progresses the teacher will place a heartbeat cut out next to the rule that is being followed by the class, either non-verbally without disrupting the flow of the lesson, or with specific praise for good behavior.

Rewards/Consequences:
The students are able to earn up to 5 heartbeats that are then transferred to beads or rocks that will be collected in a jar. When the jar is full the class has earned a free-choice day where they get to choose from a list of activities that the teacher has chosen. If student is disruptive and breaks the rules his/her name is written on the board as a non-verbal warning. If the behavior persists a checkmark is placed next to their name and the student is asked to sit in a time-out chair away from the students. Student is allowed to join the class after the current activity ends. The teacher will

talk with the students privately after class. Additional disruptions will result in the student being removed from the classroom and a call to parents will take place.

Care for Music Room and Equipment:

Students are instructed and given pre-correction on handling/using instruments many times before instruments are actually handled. Two warnings/reminders = loss of privilege and instrument is taken away.

End Class with a Routine:

Line-up routine and Musician of the Day: As students are instructed to line up by rows a student is chosen to be musician of the day. That student gets to play rhythms on a drum that the other students in line get to echo clap.
