Makardhwaj Ras (Kshadgunbalijaarit)

PREPARATION
Shudh (purified) Swarn pieces 4 Tola are blended with Kshadgunbalijaarit Parad 32 Tola. Shudh Gandhak 64 Tola is added to the Swarn-Parad mixture and throughly blended to form Kajjali. Kajjali is treated with Kumaari Swaras (fresh leaf juice). The mixture is dried and transferred to a Kaach-Kupi(glass flask, see glossary).Kaach-Kupi is layered 7 times with cloth plastered with wet-mud/clay and the Kaach-Kupi is cooked in ValukaYantra(see glossary) by giving controlled heat(Mand, Madhyam and Tivra Agni, refer glossary). On cooling red-coloured Kshadgunbalijaarit Makardhwaj is collected.
Kupipakv rasayan are denoted to those medicine which are made in a Kaach-Kupi. Kaach-Kupi is a special glass vessel which is used in preparation of Rasa-shastra medicine. They can be resembled to modern day glass-flasks used in a chemical laboratory.Kupi-pakv-Rasayan are generally prepared in a Valukayantra. A Tola is a traditional Indian unit of mass, now standardised as 0.375 troy ounces (11.6638038 gram) . One tola was traditionally the weight of 100 tola seeds, and its exact weight varied according to locality. The tola approximated to the weight of the silver rupee coin issued by the British East India Company, and so under British rule the tola became standardised at the same weight as this coin, that is 180 grains/0.375 ounces troy (11.6638038 grams).

Amarsundari Ras

PREPARATION
Shudh (purified) Parad 1 Tola and Shudh Gandhak 1 Tola are blended together to form Kajjali. Shunthi 1 Tola, Pippali Phal 1 Tola, Marich Phal(Phal == Fruit) 1 Tola, Amalaki Phal 1 Tola, Haritaki Phal 1 Tola, Bibhitak Phal 1 Tola, Renuka 1 Tola, Pippalimool (Roots of Pippali are known as Pippalimool) 1 Tola, Chitrak Twak or Mul (Twak == Bark, Mul == Root) 1 Tola, Twak 1 Tola, Tamalpatra (Leaves of Twak are known as Tamalpatra) 1 Tola, Naagkeshar 1 Tola, Ela 1 Tola,Akarkarabh 1 Tola, Vidang 1 Tola, Musta (Nagar-Mustak variety) 1 Tola, Shudh Vatsanabh 1 Tola and Loh Bhasma 1 Tola are pounded to form a coarse powder and mixed with the Kajjali. Gud (Jaggery) 40 Tola is heated till it melts and Kajjali mixture is added to it. The mixture is stirred till a uniform blend is achieved. This formulation is called Amarsundari Ras. Amarsundari Ras is then rolled into tablets each measuring 2Gunj (see glossary).
