Studentswillrespondandcreate differentartforms.Theartforms includevisualarts,music,drama anddance.Theywillaskquestions anddescribewhattheynoticeabout anartwork.Theywillrealisecreative processinvolvesjoiningin,exploring andtakingrisks. InMusicinthisunitGrade1and Grade2studentswillexperience howwecanmakemusicourownby usingourmusicalskillsand understandingandchannelingthem intonewaccomplishments.The studentswilllearnaboutJazzasa styleofmusicthatinvitesmusicians tomakeeachsongtheyperform theirown.Theywilllearntoidentify Unit1

MATHS
Centralidea:Numberscanbeorganisedandconstructedtorepresentdifferent information. Studentswillworkonanopenendedprobleminordertoshowtheir understanding,knowledgeandskillsofhowpattern,operationandplacevalueare connected.Studentswillparticipateinareflectionwheretheymakevisiblehow theirunderstandingofpattern,operationandplacevaluehelpthemsolvethe problem.Problemswillbedifferentiatedaccordingtostudentsneeds.

Studentsareswimmingnow.The focusisonlearningbasicstrokes anddevelopingconfidenceinthe water.Wearepreparingforthe SwimmingGalaaswell.Adventure Challengeistheirotherunit,the emphasisisondeveloping teamwork,thinkingand communicationskills. MrAdam

MrWarrenscomment:Whatagreatstarttotheyear.Classesarein
fullswing,teachersandstudentsarehappyandwearelookingforwardto anothergreatacademicyearintheelementarysectionofHIS. Forthoseofyouwhodonotknow,IamoneoftheVicePrincipalsoftheschool andIamtheHeadoftheelementaryschool.Ialsohaveasmallteachingrole, andworkinthegradefiveclassfortheequivalentofonedayperweek.This givesLisaHughestimetocarryoutherresponsibilitiesasthePYPcurriculum coordinator.Butmymajorroleistoensurethattheelementaryschoolisa successful,respectfulandmotivatingenvironmentforourstudentstolearninand forthemtoreachtheirfullpotential.
