Anatomy and Physiology

Instructor: Ms. McGowan Email Address: Melissa_McGowan@hcpss.org Science Office: B201 The Course: This elective course builds on the foundations of Biology and is designed to help students understand the anatomic and physiological basis of life. The course covers cytology, histology and the human body systems. Students will engage in laboratory experiences that involve dissections, models, and technological resources to understand the interdependence of structure and function in biological systems. Students will be expected to integrate relevant information and acquired skills in the exploration of careers in the medical sciences. Policies and Procedures: 1. Supplies Students will come to class prepared with the following every day: 1 or 2 Binder dedicated to Anatomy o With some loose leaf paper o 4 Dividers for the following sections: 1) Warm-Ups, 2) Notes, 3) Labs/Class Work, 4) Homework o Do NOT throw away any handouts!!! They will be needed to study for quizzes and tests! Writing utensils: pens, pencils, colored pencils Glue stick, scissors, calculator 2. Once quarter grades are calculated, a letter grade will be given based on the following scale: A = 89.5 100 B = 79.5 89.4 C = 69.5 79.4 D = 59.5 69.4 E = 0 59.4

The HCPSS policy for attendance states that if a student has 5 unexcused absences, that student may be denied credit for the course. 4. Late Work / Make-Up Work All work is due by the assigned date. Late work may be submitted, but students will lose 20% of the assignments value for each day it is late. If a student is absent, the student will have the same number of days as the absence to make up the work. For example, if a student has an excused absence for 2 days, he/she may use 2 days to make up the work. Students may only make up work for excused absences. It is always the responsibility of the student to obtain and submit missed assignments. 5. Reassessment Policy Students will be afforded redo opportunities on assignments/assessments based upon the overall class performance on those assignments/assessments, but individual students may discuss the possibility of a redo with his/her teacher.
