This is an individual assignment. Answer all questions and submit the report to my office
latest by 13th April 2009 before 5pm. Submission into pigeon hole will not be
collected. Late submission will not be entertained. Any answer scripts which are found
to be copying will be given zero mark to all parties.

1. How many lines and switches are necessary to interconnect 80 stations in:
• Station Switching
• Central Switching

2. What does 1 Erlang means?

3. What is meant by 30% blocking?
4. What is the acceptable blocking factor?
5. State the three types of Erlang Calculation.
6. If there are 140 possible users of a telephone system and no more than 98 will be
using the system at any one time, measure the blocking factor.
7. Assume 35 minute time interval is observed. 48 customers made calls and the total
combined calls duration is 5800s. Calculate the load and average load for each
customer.
8. A group of user made 65 calls in one hour, and each call had average call duration of
3.2 minutes. Calculate the traffic figure.
