Relationships
1. Relationships exist all over the world. 2. Relationships exist within systems to create a cause and effect situation. 3. Relationships can be positive or negative.
Students will become familiar with mathematical patterns found in nature and used in the design of everyday objects. Students will gain an awareness of the field of architecture and how architectural spaces impact surrounding areas. Students will build an original space using mathematical patterns. Students will develop the essential skills of communicating, creative problem-solving, and logical thinking.
LeaRniNG GoalS
In Designing Spaces, the students will study how mathematics applies to architecture and the creation of designed environments. Students will explore how various designs relate to human needs and functions by observing their environments, drawing, graphing and taking measurements. They will be researching a period of architecture, a particular style, or a famous architect and analyze the way the architect uses geometric forms and mathematical patterns in his/ her work. Students will also be able to recognize the relationship that exists between art and mathematics in architecture. Students will work together and independently to design a variety of architectural spaces, create blue prints, and build models using simple materials. Students will present their work to each other and a small audience at the end of the unit in a Designers Showcase.
