Semester Long Course Credit: Social Studies (1/2)

Course Description: As an introductory psychology course, this class covers a wide range of topics. First semester explores physiology and behavior, learning, sensation, perception, emotions, motivations, and developmental psychology. Semester two explores personality, interaction, abnormal, and social psychology. As a result of successful completion of this course: The student will meet the American Psychological Association Performance Standards and district power standards Components of the course include: History and Psychological Research Learning Classical and Operant Conditioning Memory and Thinking Information Processing Biology and Behavior Nature and Nurture in Psychology The Brain Class Guidelines: Be in class on time We will follow the attendance policy as outlined in your student handbook Students may not make up work missed from unexcused absences Be prepared to learn Must bring a writing utensil, binder, and homework to class every day Complete all assignments by the deadline set by the teacher Students will be issued one homework extension pass a term. This pass can be Sensation and Perception Motivation and Emotion States of Consciousness Development Childhood Adolescence Adulthood

used once for a one night full credit extension. Homework must be turned in at the beginning of the period. Produce quality work with academic integrity Allow others to participate in all class activities In this class we will engage in critical discussion and debate, all opinions should be presented and received respectfully. Inappropriate language, gestures, and actions will not be tolerated.

Class Grade will be based on the following guideline: Assessment: 80% Classwork: 20% Tests Classwork/Homework Quizzes Participation (see attached rubric) Projects (major and minor) Note: Grades are not averaged between quarters, but are a 19 day cycle which coincides with CORE/Choice Extra Help: Students are responsible for completing all work assigned. It is the students responsibility to arrange for additional time or assistance if needed. Teachers schedule will be posted in the classroom; students may sign up for extra help or to make up work before or after school based on teacher avalibility, during CORE/Choice, or period three (planning period). Remember: if you sign up to meet with the teacher the appointment must be confirmed face-to-face. Do not assume simply signing up constitutes confirmation and guaranteed availability.
