    Acme code

    Commercial telegraph codes remained in popular use until well after World War I. For example, the "Acme" code was a one-part code developed by William J. Mitchel in the 1920s and featured 100,000 entries. Some of the entries seemed almost tailored for encrypting contemporary pulp fiction, for example:

    BUKSI OBNYX PYTUO URPXO YBDIG GNUEK NARVO CULKE

    Avoid arrest if possible. Escape at once. Collided with an iceberg. For what use was the mixing machine intended? Plundered by natives. Rubber, slightly moldy. Do not part with the documents. Bad as possibly can be.
