Based on police reports, the crime rate (crimes per 100,000 population) is quite fluctuative in the last 3 years.

Crime rate in 2008 was 141, increased to 148 in 2009 and then decreased to 142 in 2010. Meanwhile, the household survey conducted by BPS shown an opposite result. For the crime experienced by individuals, the prevalence of crime victims in 2008 was 1.33 %, decreased to 1.17% in 2009 and increased to 1.29% in 2010. This household survey known as The National Sosio-Economic Survey (Susenas) annually conducted by BPS covering all regions in Indonesia. Before 2008, this survey consist only one question related crime, asking whether the individual or household ever been a victim of crime over the last year in the survey period. From 2008, it became two since a question of whether the crime was reported to the police has been added. Only consist of one question
