THEE WORD FOR THE WEEK

Life Through Gods Torah Week 1 September 23-27, 2013 Psalm 1:1-6 Monday: Read Psalm 1:1-6 In this text we find that there are two ways of pursuing happiness [blessing] in life. Which path is described by the Psalmist in verses 1-2? Which path is described by the Psalmist in verses 4-5? Which path are you currently on in your pursuit of happiness [blessing] in life? Are you in need of a course correction? Tuesday: Read Psalm 1:1-6 In verse 3 we find a vivid description of those who pursue happiness by delighting in the law of the Lord. What image does the Psalmist employ in verse 3 to describe those who delight in the law of the Lord? What good results are birthed from pursuing happiness by delighting in the law of the Lord? How have you seen these things unfold in your life? Wednesday: Read Psalm 1:1-6 In verse 2 we are told that the righteous delight in the law of the Lord. What does is mean to delight in the law of the Lord? What does the Psalmist say is the natural by-product of delighting in the law of the Lord [v.2b]? Do you fill your mind with the teachings of Scripture because they bring you joy? How can you become more intentional about filling your mind with Scripture? Thursday: Read Psalm 1:1-6 In verse 4 we find a vivid description of those who pursue happiness by delighting in lawlessness. What image does the Psalmist use in verse 4 to describe the wicked? What is chaff and how are the wicked like it? How have you seen this instability in your life when you neglect Gods ways? Does this image prompt you to delight in the law of the Lord more fully? If so, how does this image encourage you to delight more fully in the law of the Lord? Friday: Read Psalm 1:1-6 In verses 5-6 the Psalmist gives us a glimpse into the final destiny of those who neglect the law of the Lord. What does the Psalmist say about what will happen to those who neglect the law of the Lord on the day of judgment? According to the Psalmist, how does this compare to what will happen to those who do delight in the law of the Lord? How does this contrast offer comfort to those who delight in the law of the Lord in a world that can be hostile towards it? How does this contrast engender compassion in your heart for those who neglect the law of the Lord?
