Media Release 22 September 2013 Given the current events around the Liberal Party dealings in Sutherland Shire

e which have surfaced over the last 24 hours I am withdrawing my nomination as a candidate for preselection for the Miranda by-election I had nominated with the view that I could represent the community with a new voice, passion and vigour. It was the needs of the community, however, that ultimately brought me to the decision to withdraw. These developments have created a situation where the Labor party needs to demonstrate it has a united voice and to continue with pre-selection at this time would not be beneficial to the Party nor for the community, who will be looking to a known strong leader to represent them. Barry Collier is well known in the area and was a great local member for many years before retiring before the 2011 election. I believe Barry will be a strong voice and representative for the community and I know local residents will support him in the by-election on the 19th October. Although, these particular circumstances have meant I will not be running at this time, I will be playing a key role in Barrys campaign who will have my full support. I look forward to opportunities which will allow me to stand as a candidate in future elections. Antania Monkley
