Title: Classroom Management Plan Date: Fall 2012 Description: My artifact that I am using is a classroom management plan that

I created in Teaching 4030. The plan includes purpose statement, a room arrangement, classroom rules, procedures, positive and negative consequences, a crisis plan, and an action plan. This was a major assignment in the class, and it is well thought out. Alignment: Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment: This best aligns with Standard Five: Learning Environment. This states that The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation. My classroom management plan best aligns with this standard because the plan was created in order to establish a positive learning environment as well as provide opportunities for social interaction. The management plan addresses positive and negative behavior. Students behave differently, so the management plan needed to address all students. For the students that behave well, there are positive consequences to encourage them to continue to behave well. For the students that misbehave, there are negative consequences. These consequences start out very broad, and as the student continues to misbehave, gradually become more specific and severe. Overall, the classroom management plan addresses different parts of a classroom environment. UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Alignment: The classroom management plan best aligns with KSD2.d., Manages Student behavior, which states The candidate can establish clear standards of conduct with student input. The monitoring of these standards is subtle and preventive with respectful student self- and peer monitoring also occurring. The candidate can respond to misbehavior effectively, being sensitive to individual needs. The management plan best aligns to this KSD because it addresses misbehavior and how to respond to it. In the plan, there are six levels to use for misbehavior. As stated above, the levels start out broad and get more specific as the student continues to misbehave. The classroom rules are put in place to create a positive and respectful environment within the classroom. Secondary KSDs: KSD2.b. Establishes a Culture for Learning KSD2.c. Manages Classroom Procedures. Reflection: What I learned about teaching/learning: I learned many things by creating this classroom management plan. I learned that along with negative consequences, there also need to be positive consequences in the classroom. Students that behave need to be encouraged to continue to behave well by receiving positive consequences throughout the day. I also learned that it is important to have a crisis plan for whenever an

emergency happens. Young students will most likely not know what to do in an emergency so it is good to have a unit about emergencies so they have a better understanding of what to do. Also, it is good to practice what to do in case of a fire or a tornado so that students can stay calm if one of those happen. One last thing that I learned is that each student responds differently to positive and negative consequences. Because of this, the plan may need to be modified to meet their needs. What I learned about myself as a prospective teacher: One thing that I learned is that each student responds differently to positive and negative consequences. Because of this, a classroom management plan may need to be modified to meet his or her individual needs. Also, I learned that the classroom environment could be made better by having the students create some of the classroom rules. Sometimes they know what is best for the classroom and have a better understanding of what they would wish to see in the classroom. One last thing that I learned is that I may have to add more rules to the classroom depending on how students behave or modify an existing rule.
