Historical Development of the Telephone

In 1667 Robert Hooke created the telephone of two cans and a piece of wire connecting them, the sound is conveyed over the wire.

Johann Philipp Reis managed to transfer voice electrically over a distance of 340 feet in 1860. He used the phrase The horse does not eat cucumber salad although hard to recognize in German, but it was still understood at the other end.
