By the end of the foundation year, students writing shows evidence of sound and letter knowledge, beginning writing behaviours and experimentation with capital letters and full stops.

Language: Recognise that sentences are key units for expressing ideas (ACELA1435) Know that spoken sounds and words can be written down using letters of the alphabet and how to write some high-frequency sight words and known words (ACELA1758) Literacy: Creating texts: Create short texts to explore, record and report ideas and events using familiar words and beginning writing knowledge (ACELY1651)

Content: Pre Assessment PYP unit Our World Experience: 1. Explain that we will be investigating a new line of inquiry to help us understand the worls around us. We will be talking about, thinking about and asking questions about how things move, why they move, how they are designed and made, what we use to help us make them and how they help us. Explain that today I want to find out what you already know about movement. 2. Give each child a pre - assessment sheet and ask them to write at least 5 facts about how and why objects move. Assessment: As the children are writing monitor the room, supporting sounding out and CAPs. Focus on the children I have identified as requiring additional support.
